The Annual Mewar Festival to be Held from 9 April, 2016

The most romantic city of Rajasthan, Udaipur organizes this Mewar Festival to welcome the beginning of spring. Another major festival named Gangaur is celebrated with this festival. The womenfolk of the city celebrate this festival by dressing traditionally and observing the rituals. Mewar Festival has religious and cultural importance. During this time of festivity, the shops in the market place are illuminated with lights and adorned with decorations.

The women then carry the image of Goddess Gauri and go out for a procession in different parts of the city. Bagore ki Haveli & Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal are involved in arranging this event. The event is concluded with an attractive firework show.

The Mewar festival will begin on 9th April this year and will end on 11th of April with zest. The festival is held for three days where opportunities to get involved in various fun-filled activities can be availed from 2nd April, 2016 to 4th April, 2016.

Mewar Gangaur FestivalWomen dressed in ethnic outfit and jewelry to participate in the festival. They also get their hands and feet designed with beautiful mehandi pattern. The women then make the idols of Lord Shiva and Gangaur (Shiva’s consort) ready. They prepare the most famous sweet named Ghewar, which they offer to the God and Goddess. Later it is distributed among the people and consumed as Prasad. Womenfolk of Mewar, worship Goddess Gaugaur for their happy married life and for the well-being of their husbands. The women perform dance and sing religious songs during the procession. The idols are carried in the different parts of the city. The procession ends as they reach the Gangaur Ghat of Lake Pichola. You can get the amazing view of boats carrying idols at the center of the lake for immersion. The cultural events begin with the completion of immersion ceremony.
